As the front page says, this is a journey. We are presenting the Disease of Addiction in this way to create an empathetic connection and understanding (Read Why Understand).
This is a layman’s approach to the disease, where we need to bring in the medical doctors, we have links to the best resources we can find. Where we need to bring in the insight of psychologists, addiction specialists, and people with the disease of addiction we link to sites, home pages, blogs and videos.
But this site takes all that medical, psychological, chemical, social, and societal information blends it together, strips out the noise and gets to the heart of the matter: The What, Why, and How of the Disease of Addiction.
Just like our understanding of the disease of addiction, this site is a work in progress. We are posting new pages all the time. If you find it helpful, insightful, inspiring, share it! tell us! If you don’t like the site, don’t agree with the points of view presented, think we should leave this to the professionals, we understand that too. We took some risks building this site and expect that some people may not agree with the approach, the opinions or the way we present people who are suffering from a disease. Please tell us! We want to make a great site to help people understand the disease of addiction, and we value any input to make it better.
Finally, the mission of UnderstandingAddiction.org is the enlightenment of all so that, with understanding, empathy and love, we can remove the stigma of addiction and help and support those who are affected with the disease of addiction!
